Nassau Police D.A.R.E. to blow off Tom Suozzi

My friends: It is days like these that give me great joy. To see that article in Newsday today, complete with the vanity filled picture of Tom Suozzi, contrasted with the seasoned professional look of Greg Peterson is quite nice.

It is also nice to see that law enforcement in Nassau County has its priorities well in order. More importantly, it has the priorities of Nassau County residents well in order;

Nassau PBA spurns Suozzi

DelaRaba said he endorsed Suozzi four years ago, but the two have clashed on the union's contract, the number of police officers on the force, the condition of county precincts, police management, and other issues. The endorsement comes despite union leaders possibly having to negotiate with Suozzi when their contract expires next year."

Right is right," DelaRaba said yesterday in explaining his union's endorsement of Peterson. Suozzi "has no vision ... The morale in the Nassau County Police Department is the lowest it's ever been since I've been on this job."

This is not surprising, considering that Nassau County now has almost 600 fewer Policeman than it did before Tom Suozzi's term began. Factor that in with higher crime rates, constant squabbling, and you get a formula for police being down.

And, make no mistake about it, folks: This is Suozzi's own making. He utterly failed to negotiate a contract with the police, and chose adversarial rhetoric instead of practicality. And, of course, this has cost taxpayers millions. Witness :

"The PBA bosses would love to go back to the days when their endorsement and political contributions would buy the one-sided contract for their members at the expense of the taxpayers," she said.

Kim, this will not inspire anyone to listen to you. What kind of spokeswoman are you?

So, folks, there you have it. The PBA has saved up a lot of money for this fight against Suozzi, and we fully expect them to use it.

Primaries are over, folks. This is when things will really start to get interesting. Stay tuned.

I think it's pretty interesting how this story is not home page news on Newsday's website. It's buried pretty far back in the Long Island News section, almost as if to read it, you would need to stumble upon it. If the cops endorsed Tommy boy, you can surely bet it would be front page/home page news. Thanks for nothing, Newsday.
